7 hours

Easy

Take a day trip from Strasbourg to the Black Forest in Germany. Cross the border to visit one of the most beautiful areas in the region.

Departing from the city of Strasbourg, take part in a shared excursion in a small group that will introduce you to one of the most emblematic regions of Germany. After meeting your English speaking guide at a central meeting place in Strasbourg, leave for the city of Baden-Baden.

Cross the French border into Germany, leaving the Grand Est region and entering the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg. The Black Forest is a wooded mountain range bordered by the Rhine Valley to the west and south. The highest point is Feldberg, with an altitude of 1,493 meters. The name Black Forest comes from the dark color of the many pine trees that grow in this region. Both the Black Forest cake and the cuckoo are native to this region. You're soon arriving in Baden Baden, a city that has attracted royalty, the rich, and the famous for centuries. Follow your guide and discover the many architectural splendors and magnificent villas that line up Lichtentaler Allee.

After this short walking tour, take in the scenery as you follow Schwarzwaldhochstrasse. There, the numerous viewpoints and belvederes will allow you to admire the Upper Rhine Valley and the Vosges mountains in France in the distance. You will then arrive at the pretty Mummelsee Lake, where you will have some free time for personal discovery and lunch. With a circumference of 800 meters, a depth of 17 meters, and an altitude of 1,036 meters, Lake Mummelsee is the largest, deepest, and highest of the seven Circus lakes. During your stay, you might want to try some local food, such as charcuterie or the world-famous Black Forest cake.

After a break for lunch, your tour continues along the Badischerweinstrasse wine route. This wine route is the longest in Germany, extending over 500 kilometers. It is dotted with charming small towns, picturesque villages, magnificent landscapes and impressive castles. The village of Sasbachwalden is one stop on your return trip. Located in the vineyards, this well-maintained village is famous for having won the prestigious national competition “Fleurification des Villages”. You can see this as you stroll through the streets and admire the magnificent half-timbered houses decorated with flowers. After this last stage, you will return to Strasbourg.
